Hopefully in a positive way, but BGE is still in 2.79 and a EEVEE game engine is coming, so it won’t make much of a difference. I think the devs should scrap a official game engine, since they won’t be able to make it competitive with Unity+Unreal anyway (resources should better be spent elsewhere) and so would just steal the ground away from Armory, which could be able to do that some time.

BGE discontinuation does not affect Armory. If you are looking for alternative - Armory is a modern game engine for Blender being improved each day. Now close to get released for free, with v1.0 planned this year.
In my personal opinion, Armory is what BGE should be by now. Blender 2.8 will have an interactive mode, but a.f.a.i.k. it will keep to not be portable to other platforms.
